Our aim for 2019 is to become more environment-conscious and increase awareness of environmental issues. We believe that days spent in our summer camps give a great opportunity to show an environment-friendly view of the world to all our participants.
That is why we are planning some changes in our camps in favor of increasing environmental awareness and we are curious about our campers’ ideas too! The following changes are already underway for 2019:
- One of the most important changes this year is that we will implement recycling. We already collected plastic bottles in previous years, but we want to take it a step further, so we decided to install selective waste bins throughout the whole camp.
- During our afternoon and evening activities, we will keep away from using materials that are harmful to the environment: disposable plastic straws will be banned and non-degradable helium balloons will no longer be flown.
- Also, we would like to raise our campers’ attention to the importance of using their own water bottles. We encourage them to bring their own to the camp, so we don’t have to use plastic bottles. Also, it makes a lot easier to ensure ideal daily water consumption.
- Education is also very important in this matter, so throughout the camp we will pay special attention to raise awareness of the basic principles of an environmentally friendly mindset.
- Also, the venue of Funside Balaton Camp, at Balatongyörök, will use make a move towards using solar energy from this year on. Starting in 2019, more than half of the electricity of the camp will be powered this way.
