Funside Balaton is turning 10, and we are celebrating the anniversary with numerous new adventures!
In 2020, we are once again looking forward to hosting campers from more than 30 countries! In the following article, you will find everything you need to know about our new classes and activities, but we have some important announcements about changes regarding meals, as well as this year’s registration process.
Classes
For our anniversary year, besides our usual selection of classes, we’re introducing 3 brand-new ones as well. In 2020, you will get the chance to try SUP (stand-up paddling), you may also choose our English language ‘Start-up Camp’, or experience a new reality in our Virtual Reality and 360-degree Filming Camp. That’s not all: after a year of hiatus, our popular Music Camp is back, while our American Sports Camp has added a new sport for 2020: lacrosse. This brings our selection to 24 different classes, the largest in the Central-Eastern European region – check out the full list here.
Activities
Many of our long time favorite activities will be updated for our anniversary summer, but we have created 12 brand new afternoon and evening activities as well. A highlight will surely be Hungary’s largest AirPark: a gigantic Ninja Warrior-like inflatable obstacle course, featured in our Week 1 and Week 3 programs.
Running from July 5 to August 8, our weekly themes include a Sims Week, an Olympics Week and a Caribbean Week. For the first time, as part of our Campers’ Choice poll, our campers got to pick one of our popular previous themes they wanted to see return for 2020, and the winner was the Wizarding School Week, which is this year’s Week 2. We will be closing the anniversary year with our ’10 years of Funside Balaton’ anniversary-themed week, featuring some of the best activities we have done together in the last decade! Check out the full schedule here.
Meals
There are some big changes coming in the meals department as well:
After a short but successful test run in 2019, we have now officially added a 4th meal of the day: besides our usual three meals a day (breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner), we are introducing the “Snack Point”, where our campers can choose from small meals (porridge, a cup of soup or a croissant) once a day, also included in the camp fee. The Snack Point will be open twice a day: in the mornings during the long break between the two classes, as well as in the afternoons during the activities, and everyone can choose their preferred time to pick up their extra meal. Naturally, we will still be offering fresh fruits every morning between the classes, something different every day!
Important updates for those with special dietary needs: starting this year, gluten-free, milk protein-free, as well as all individual special diets which are administered for medical reasons will be prepared off-site and shipped to the camp every day by a specialist provider to cater the best possible quality for those who require a special diet for medical reasons. This service is provided by us at no extra cost, however, we can only accommodate a limited number of special diets each week and must ask for a doctor’s note along with the registration in each case. In case of individual special diets, we must liaise with the external catering provider in each case on an individual basis, and there might be certain requirements that we are unable to meet, therefore if this is something that concerns you, please kindly get in touch with us as soon as possible!

Registration process (February 26)
Registration begins on February 26 at midday (GMT+1) on the Funside.eu website. As usual, we expect a quite a rush (70 to 80% of places usually sell out in the first 24 hours). In order to ensure that the registration process goes smoothly, we will be disabling all other functions on our website in the hours before the start of the registration period, so it is a good idea to get informed about your choice of weeks and classes prior to Wednesday.
This is what you’ll need to sign up on Wednesday: the camper’s personal details (including EU health insurance number or alternatives), parents’ contact details and billing address, the chosen weeks, classes, menu and means of travel, as well as the names of preferred roommates (if there is any).
Funside Alumni members only: for the first time, applications for Junior positions at the camp open at the same time as the regular registration. Please check the Funside Alumni closed group on Facebook for the latest details.
