Funside Balaton is an international sleepover summer camp for kids and youth, striving to provide the greatest selection of camp education and activities in Hungary, summer after summer. Our journey, which started in 2011, reaches an important milestone: during our 15th anniversary year at Lake Balaton, we will relive the best moments of the first decade and a half, along with many new and exciting programs. Uniquely in the Central European region, we are once again offering nearly 30 different classes to choose from in a single campus, with lots of fun extracurricular activities to complete each camp session. Join us from 6 July to 9 August of this year!
Important information for parents: we have a team of 50-60 teachers and instructors looking after our campers each week, with the help of a 24/7 medical staff. Our team of young and well-trained camp leaders is assembled through a long recruitment process, including background checks, and our 5-to-1 child-to-adult ratio is outstanding among camps. The official languages of the camp are English and Hungarian: our camp is open to children meeting our age requirements and language requirements. Read the criteria for room assignment here. Our camp has a minimum age limit of 8* and a maximum age limit of 17 (that is until you have turned 17). Some of our classes have stricter age limits, so please be sure to check the table below for information before signing up.
* Regarding the lower age limit: a child is eligible to attend the overnight camp if he or she is finishing the 1st grade or higher of elementary/lower school in the spring semester before the camp. The overnight camp cannot be attended in a day camp form.
Children must have at least a basic level (A2 or lower-intermediate) of spoken English (or Hungarian) to attend our camps, in order to be able to communicate with our staff.

Children are assigned to rooms based on gender and age: only kids of the same gender and age may share the same room, with a maximum age difference of 2 years allowed within the same room (for example, 10 to 12 year-old boys within the same room).
This means that there is a room for 8-9 year-old girls, another room for 8-9 year-old boys, another one for 10-11 year-old girls and so on, all the way up to 16-17 year-olds. If you would like to share a room with your friends or siblings who are also coming to the camp, please put in their names in the corresponding section of the sign-up form. If your request meets the above criteria, then we will do our best to assign you to the same room, as requested (we have 3 to 6 bed bedrooms).
Funside began its journey in 2007 as a bilingual day camp in Budapest, driven by the goal of bringing the magic of community to as many young people as possible. In 2011, we launched our Balaton camp: 150 children and teens joined us that first summer, and within two years, our community grew to nearly 800 participants. By 2014, Funside Balaton had relocated to Balatongyörök, and soon after, our earliest campers “graduated” upon reaching the age limit—a milestone that inspired the Funside Alumni program, now joined by several hundreds. During these years, a great number of teens would travel to Hungary from abroad to spend weeks camping with us by Lake Balaton. Over time, our campers have represented over 50 countries and set 6 Hungarian national records. Many of our first-generation campers now return as teachers, organizers, or even camp doctors, continuing to strengthen this vibrant community.

English-only classes

If there are both international and local participants in the group (depending on the group), the following classes will be conducted in English and Hungarian simultaneously (our teachers will deliver the instructions in both languages).
Sports

The afternoon and evening activities are also bilingual: our speakers will explain everything in both English and Hungarian. In 2025, we’re looking forward to welcoming our campers with brand new weekly themes and old-time favorites (including the Campers’ Choice week, voted for by our returning campers). This year, 10 brand activities have been added to the program – find out which popular activities are returning below!
Sessions start on Sundays and end on Saturdays. When staying for multiple weeks, your stay also includes the Saturday nights between the sessions. The afternoon and evening activities are the same for all of our campers, regardless of which classes they choose for the mornings. For example, if you are attending the combination of English and Dance Camps, and you have a friend who is attending the SUP and Sports Camp, you will still see each other at the afternoon and evening activities!

Every weekly session features different free time activities: see the tables above for the detailed schedules. Funside reserves the rights to change any programs or schedules when necessary.
The Funside Balaton international camps are held in Balatongyörök, 10 km from Keszthely. The camp is only 100 metres from the beach, so both Lake Balaton and the sports fields are easily and conveniently accessible.
After the Balatongyörök Szépkilátó (signposted), turn right at the first opportunity. Continue for about 50 meters and you will see our team members helping you to drive to the camp.
By bus from Budapest, with Funside group
Campers have the option to travel in a group, supervised by our teachers, from Budapest to the camp venue and back, by bus.
By train
If you are travelling by train individually, we can arrange to pick you up at the 'Becehegy' station between 11 am and 2 pm on the first day of your stay. Please notify us of your arrangements at least two weeks in advance.
By plane
If you are travelling to the camp by plane, please let us know about your flight details as soon as possible, so that we can help by arranging airport transfers to the camp.
